Player Bio

Born on December 5, 1999, in New York City, Brody Louis Couch is a rare blend of American roots and Australian cricketing finesse. A genuine right-arm fast bowler with the ability to consistently clock speeds around 90 mph (144 km/h), Couch is emerging as one of the most exciting pace prospects in both Australian and American cricket circles.

Brody’s journey into the professional game began with Victoria, where he made his List A debut in March 2021 during the Marsh One-Day Cup. Later that year, he transitioned into the longer format, earning his first-class debut in the 2021–22 Sheffield Shield season. But it was in the shorter format where he truly made his mark—his BBL debut for the Melbourne Stars on his 22nd birthday (December 5, 2021) proved to be a breakthrough moment. In his maiden Big Bash season, he struck early and often, finishing with 16 wickets in 14 matches and becoming the Stars' leading wicket-taker—a remarkable feat for a debutant.

With a slingy action, natural pace, and relentless aggression, Couch brings the kind of energy that intimidates even the most experienced batters. But his skill set isn’t limited to just bowling. Known for his athleticism, Brody has also delivered standout performances in the field, often saving crucial runs or effecting sharp dismissals. His performances in BBL|12 only cemented his rising reputation as one of the game’s most exciting young quicks.

Despite the highs, Brody’s path hasn’t been without its setbacks. At the end of the 2022–23 season, he lost his contract with Victoria. Lesser players might have faded—but Brody took it as motivation. He returned to the grind of Premier Cricket in Victoria, worked tirelessly on his game, and continued to push for a return. His efforts paid off in April 2024, when Western Australia signed him for the 2024–25 domestic season—a move that would soon prove historic.

On November 4, 2024, Brody etched his name into the record books by becoming the first-ever Western Australian to claim a hat-trick in Sheffield Shield history, knocking over Jake Doran, Lawrence Neil-Smith, and Kieran Elliott in consecutive deliveries. That moment wasn’t just a milestone—it was a statement from a cricketer who refused to give up.

On the global stage, Brody is part of a new wave of international cricketers with dual heritage. He  was drafted by the San Francisco Unicorns for the Major League Cricket 2025 season. His fierce pace and international experience make him a valuable asset in a league on the rise.

Now representing Western Australia, the Melbourne Stars, and the San Francisco Unicorns, Brody Couch’s career is a shining example of resilience, passion, and raw talent. He’s not just bowling fast—he’s racing toward a future where he could be one of the premier fast bowlers across multiple continents.

The journey is just beginning, and with every thunderbolt delivery, Couch is reminding the cricketing world that determination and heart still matter as much as pace.
