Player Bio

Among Afghanistan’s new breed of versatile cricketers, Farmanullah Safi has steadily made his mark as a dependable all-rounder in the domestic circuit. Born in Kapisa, Safi represents a generation of Afghan players who have benefited from the country’s expanding cricketing structure and exposure to international formats.

A right-arm medium-fast bowler and a capable middle-order batter, Safi made his first-class debut for Band-e-Amir Region during the 2017-18 domestic season. His List A debut came in July 2018, while his T20 debut came in October 2019.

Safi’s maiden century in the Ahmad Shah Abdali tournament final for Band-e-Amir highlighted his composure under pressure and marked a defining moment in his young career. His stints in overseas leagues, including a spell in England’s Bradford League, have further refined his game and given him exposure to different conditions.

He featured in the Bangladesh Premier League 2024-25 for the Dhaka Capital franchise. The all-rounder is part of the Afghanistan squad for the Hong Kong International Sixes and the Afghanistan A squad for the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament. Both are scheduled for November 2025.

Interestingly, Safi was born on 14 March 2001 - a day famously remembered for VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid batting out the entire day against Australia in the historic Eden Gardens Test.

As Afghanistan continues to strengthen its bench of all-rounders, Farmanullah Safi’s balanced skill set positions him as a player to watch. With further consistency and experience, the 2001-born cricketer could soon push his way into contention for national honours.
