Player Bio

Born in Dinajpur, Bangladesh, Litton Das is a right-handed opening batsman and wicket-keeper who has represented the Tigers in two Under-19 World Cups. He impressed everyone with his superb technique and was touted as the next big thing in Bangladeshi cricket.

Litton made his first-class debut in 2011. He had a disappointing start to his career, but his stock rose after the Under-19 World Cup in 2014, where he amassed 239 runs in just 4 innings.

Post the under-19 World Cup, Das was at his best in the domestic circuit. He was the second-highest run-getter in the Dhaka Premier League and amassed more than 1000 runs in the first-class season.

It was time for the selectors to take notice of his performances, and he was handed his Test debut in June 2015 against India. He looked composed and played a good hand of 44 in the first innings.

In the following Test series against the Proteas, Das scored his maiden Test fifty against a good-quality South African attack.

The keeper-batter has been in and out of the Bangladesh team, mainly due to performance issues. His inability to play the long innings has hampered his cricketing career.

In the final of the 2018 Asia Cup, Litton Das played the innings of his life against India. He scored a well-crafted 121 off just 117 deliveries, but the runs went in vain as the Men in Blue prevailed in the final. Despite the result, Das was declared the Player of the Match for his stunning knock.

The Dinajpur-born was a part of the Bangladesh team for the 2019 World Cup. In a group stage match against the West Indies, he scored an unbeaten 94 and shared an unbroken stand of 189 with Shakib Al Hasan, helping Bangladesh to a famous victory in the World Cup. Despite having a good start to the World Cup campaign, Das couldn’t continue his good form and, in the end, had a tournament to forget.

A sweet timer of the ball, Liton Das, handles spin and pace well. He is good on the back foot and plays the cover drive well. He is also a neat wicket-keeper and possesses all the skills to succeed at the international level, provided he works hard.

Litton represented Bangladesh in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, featuring in six of Bangladesh’s seven matches. Still, he could only score 52 runs at an average of 8.66 and a strike rate of 88.13, reflecting a tough tournament as Bangladesh exited with just one Super 12 victory.

In the ICC T20 World Cup held in Australia, Liton delivered one of his most memorable T20 performances. Against India at the Adelaide Oval, he scored a blistering 60 off 27 balls, giving Bangladesh a rapid start in their chase. This innings set a new record, making him Bangladesh's leading run-scorer in a calendar year with 1,693 runs from 36 matches at an average of 42.32, surpassing the previous record held by Mushfiqur Rahim.

In April 2023, the keeper-batter was acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 50 Lakhs during the IPL 2023 auction. His stint in the tournament was brief; he featured in a single match against the Delhi Capitals. Following this match, Litton did not make further appearances in the season.

In September 2023, Litton was named in Bangladesh's squad for the Asia Cup held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. However, he missed the initial group-stage matches due to illness. Upon recovery, he rejoined the team for the Super Four stage. In a match against India on September 15, 2023, Litton opened the innings but was dismissed early, scoring 0 runs. Despite his early departure, Bangladesh managed a competitive total of 265/8 and secured a 6-run victory.

During October and November 2023, Litton was a key member of Bangladesh's squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup, held in India.

In January 2024, Litton represented the Dhaka Capitals in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024. He delivered a standout performance, notably scoring an impressive 125* off 55 balls, which was the highest individual score of the tournament.

Das was notably excluded from Bangladesh's squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cited his prolonged lack of form as the primary reason for this decision. However, due to Bangladesh’s poor run in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy next year, the BCB named Litton Das as captain of the T20I team to lead the team forward in a transitional phase following the departures of Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, and Mushfiqur Rahim.
