Player Bio

Darwish Rasooli is a talented Afghan middle-order batter known for his technical soundness, temperament, and ability to build innings under pressure. A right-handed batsman and part-time off-spinner, Darwish Rasooli emerged from Afghanistan’s strong domestic system and rose to international cricket through consistent performances in age-group and first-class cricket.

Darwish Rasooli gained wider recognition after his impressive showing in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup and later established himself as one of Afghanistan’s most promising young batting prospects.

Darwish Rasooli’s Early Life and Background

Darwish Rasooli was born on 12 December 1999 in Laghman Province, Afghanistan, a region known for producing disciplined and technically sound cricketers.

Growing up in an environment where cricket was rapidly gaining popularity, Rasooli was naturally drawn to the sport from an early age. Like many Afghan cricketers, he began playing with tennis ball in the streets before moving into structured coaching and competitive cricket.

His family played a supportive role in his development, encouraging him to pursue cricket seriously rather than treating it as just a pastime. During his teenage years, Rasooli worked extensively on his batting technique, focusing on timing, footwork, and shot selection rather than just power-hitting.

This foundation later helped him succeed in longer formats of the game. His performances in local tournaments and regional cricket quickly caught the attention of selectors, paving the way for his rise through Afghanistan’s domestic and age-group system.

Darwish Rasooli’s Domestic Career

Darwish Rasooli made his List A debut for Speen Ghar Region in the 2017 Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament on 13 August 2017. Just three days later, in only his second List A match, Darwish Rasooli showcased his batting potential by scoring an unbeaten 130 against Amo Region, marking his first professional century in impressive fashion.

He made his T20 debut on 14 September 2017 for Mis Ainak Knights in the Shpageeza Cricket League, Afghanistan’s premier domestic T20 competition. Darwish Rasooli quickly established himself as a reliable top-order batsman in domestic cricket.

His breakthrough domestic season came in 2018 when he finished as the leading run-scorer in the Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament, accumulating 1,073 runs in just eight matches. This remarkable achievement highlighted his ability to play long, high-quality innings and cemented his reputation as one of Afghanistan’s best young red-ball batters.

In September 2018, Rasooli was selected in Balkh’s squad for the inaugural Afghanistan Premier League, further expanding his exposure to high-level franchise cricket.

Darwish Rasooli’s International Career

Darwish Rasooli’s journey to international cricket began with his selection for Afghanistan’s Under-19 team, where he represented the nation in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. His performances at the youth level and in domestic cricket kept him in contention for national selection over the following years.

Rasooli finally made his senior international debut in March 2022, marking the start of his international cricket career. Since then, he has been considered a developing player in Afghanistan’s white-ball setup, with selectors viewing him as a long-term batting option for the national team.

Darwish Rasooli’s T20I Career

Darwish Rasooli made his T20I debut for Afghanistan on 3 March 2022 against Bangladesh, marking his official entry into international cricket. Since his debut, he has been part of Afghanistan’s T20I squad on multiple occasions, gradually gaining experience at the highest level.

Rasooli has also captained Afghanistan A to victory in the 2024 Emerging Asia Cup, demonstrating leadership qualities alongside his batting talent. While still in the early stages of his international T20 career, Darwish Rasooli is seen as a player with significant potential in the shortest format.

The talented cricketer represents the next generation of Afghan batting flair, combining patience, technique, and adaptability across formats. From dominating domestic first-class cricket to making his mark in T20 internationals, Rasooli’s career trajectory suggests that he has the potential to become a key figure in Afghanistan’s cricketing future.
