Player Bio

A towering right-arm pacer, Matthew Kelly is a professional Australian cricketer who earned a rookie deal from Western Australia in the 2016-17 domestic season having represented the state in age-group cricket.

Kelly came into the limelight the following year, picking up a wicket on his 50-over debut for Western Australia and a career-best of 4/25 in the next game against Queensland. He continued to prove his dominance to become a regular wicket-taker in Western Australia Premier Cricket for the Tigers with 22 dismissals during the 2015-16 season.

The Durban-born pacer was added to the Perth Scorchers in the seventh edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) as a replacement for Andrew Tye who was selected for national duty. He made his BBL debut against Sydney Thunders in January 2018 and ended up picking a wicket and a catch in the three-run defeat.

Kelly was the centre of attention when he was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders prior to the 2019 Indian Premier League as a replacement for Anrich Nortje but didn’t get an opportunity to showcase his skills and was finally released in 2020. Into the fourth season with the Scorchers, the 26-year old pacer would be looking to make an impact in the upcoming season of the BBL.
