Player Bio

Rishad Hossain has steadily grown into one of Bangladesh’s most impactful white-ball cricketers, particularly in the T20 format, where his leg-spin and clean striking have made him a genuine match-winner. Rishad emerged through Bangladesh’s domestic structure with early appearances in the Bangladesh Cricket League and the Dhaka Premier Division T20 League, before earning wider recognition through consistent performances as a bowling all-rounder.

His rise at the international level gathered pace from 2023 onwards, marking him out as one of Bangladesh’s most impactful white-ball bowlers in recent times. In March 2023, he received his maiden call-up to the Bangladesh national side for the T20I series against Ireland and made his international debut on 31 March 2023. He announced himself immediately, striking a six with his very first scoring shot in international cricket, underlining his confidence even on debut.

Later in December 2023, Rishad was included in Bangladesh’s squad for the white-ball tour of New Zealand. He made his ODI debut on 20 December 2023 and once again made headlines by hitting a six off the first ball he faced, becoming only the second Bangladeshi player to achieve that feat, despite batting as low as number nine. These moments reflected his fearless approach and growing composure on the big stage.

Rishad’s breakthrough came during the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he emerged as Bangladesh’s standout bowler. He finished the tournament with 14 wickets from seven matches, setting a new record for the most wickets taken by a Bangladeshi bowler in a single T20 World Cup edition. His performances played a major role in Bangladesh’s campaign and significantly enhanced his reputation in global T20 cricket.

In January 2025, Rishad was named in Bangladesh’s squad for the Champions Trophy, further cementing his place in the national setup. His growing stature also attracted interest from overseas leagues, and in September 2024, he was picked by the Hobart Hurricanes for the Big Bash League. Although he was initially unable to feature due to scheduling clashes with the Bangladesh Premier League and the absence of necessary clearance from the Bangladesh Cricket Board, the move highlighted his growing global demand.

Now available and settled, Rishad Hossain is set to represent the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League 2025–26 season, bringing his wicket-taking ability and fearless mindset to Australian conditions.
