Player Bio
A young prolific leg-spinner with all kinds of variations up his sleeve, Tanveer Sangha became only the second Indian-origin player to make it to the Australian national cricket team when he was selected for the T20I series against the Blackcaps in February 2021. He started his junior cricket career as a fast bowler and it wasn’t until his early teens when he discovered his skill as a leg-spinner, that his passion for the game started to develop.
Sangha, who created a niche for himself in the U-19 World Cup has seen a dramatic rise in his career ever since he emerged as a breakout star in the recently concluded Big Bash League (BBL). The young leggie played for Australia at the 2020 U-19 World Cup and was the team’s highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets at an average of 11.46. Later that year, Sangha earned a rookie contract with the NSW Blues at the age of 18.
Sangha’s rise to stardom began after his exploits in the tenth edition of the BBL. Featuring for the Sydney Thunder, he bagged 21 wickets by the end of the group stage this season in his debut season.
The Sydney-born leggie is highly influenced by the former Australian Legend Shane Warne and, his only goal was to break into the Australian national team. Currently just a teenager, Sangha would be hoping to make the most of the opportunities in the domestic circuit and remain consistent at the highest level.
