Player Bio

Dane Piedt is a South African right-arm off-spinner whose career has been marked by consistency, patience, and a knack for match-defining spells. A product of Western Province, Piedt quickly made a name for himself in South African domestic cricket, becoming a reliable wicket-taker for both Western Province and the Cape Cobras. Known for his ability to bowl long, disciplined spells, Piedt made his Test debut for South Africa in August 2014 against Zimbabwe, taking eight wickets in the match — the best by a South African spinner on debut since Aubrey Faulkner.

Unable to get a chance to play in limited-overs cricket in Proteas colours, Piedt has been effective in the domestic one-day and T20 competitions.

In 2020, the 1990-born spinner decided to hang up his Proteas boots and shift to the United States to explore new cricketing opportunities. However, he never knew that almost four years later, he would be asked to come out of retirement and represent South Africa again in the away Test series against New Zealand in early 2024. In his comeback series, he even took a career-best of 5 for 89 in Hamilton.

From playing the now-defunct cricket competitions like the Mzansi Super League and the Champions League T20, the Cape Town-born player represented the MI Cape Town in the SA20 league 2024/25 season. He will again represent the same franchise in the 2025/26 season.
