Another riveting ICC tournament draws to a close, and what a historic finish weโve witnessed! For the first time ever in a Womenโs Cricket World Cup final, neither Australia nor England featured โ a sign that history was always destined to be made. And tonight, the Women in Blue have fulfilled a long-awaited dream, lifting the World Cup on home soil in front of a roaring sea of blue.
Heartbreak for South Africa, though. Skipper Laura Wolvaardt delivered back-to-back centuries in knockout games โ one powering her side to the final, and another in a gallant losing cause. Marizanne Kapp, in her fifth World Cup and the tournamentโs all-time leading wicket-taker, gave everything but still walks away without the trophy she craved. We may never see her again on this stage โ a true legend of the game.
On the flip side, what a campaign from India! Written off by many before the semifinals, they toppled the mighty Australians and then held their nerve in front of a packed DY Patil Stadium to script the most memorable chapter in their cricketing journey. After heartbreaks in 2005 and 2017, the wait is finally over โ INDIA ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS! ๐ฎ๐ณ๐
The atmosphere in Navi Mumbai was electric and the celebrations have only just begun โ and theyโll continue for days!
That wraps up an unforgettable finale. For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Akshay Bhide, Ajay Pal Singh and AkshayaKrishna Polya who, along with scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer & statistician Aman bringing you every moment from this blockbuster final. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world! BYE BYE๐

And here comes the moment that every Indian is waiting. ICC President Jay Shah presents the World Cup trophy to Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur. She celebrates with her teammates and the fireworks go off.
Harmanpreet Kaur (India Women Captain): "I am so grateful to this crowd. They have been so amazing. Thank you guys for being there for us through all our ups and downs. Credit goes to everyone, our cricket team, BCCI, the selectors and everyone back home.
Yeah, last game we also spoke that we had the belief. We lost three games on the trot but we knew this team has something special to turn things around. Credit goes to each and every one. They stayed positive, they knew what to do, they were involved, this team deserves to be there.
Yeah, I mean when Laura and Sune were batting, they were looking good. I saw Shafali standing there, the way she batted, I knew it was her day. I wanted to give at least one over to her, my heart was saying that. She always wanted to bowl for the team. I think that was the turning point for us.
Well, when she came to the team. We spoke to her that we might need you to bowl 2-3 overs. Credit goes to her, she was positive. Salute to her the way she was there for the team.
No, today's pitch was totally different. We knew it would be enough, final has an extra pressure on you. In the last moment, they will panic and we can catch the game. That time, Deepti came in and picked those wickets.
After every World Cup, we came as a team and we always discuss what we have to do to par that line. Last few years, Amol sir was there with the team. He was telling us, this is not something this team is expecting from you. You have to prepare yourself for bigger things. Credit to the support staff and the BCCI for trusting us. We didn't make too many changes in the last few years, they showed faith in us and that's why we are here.
Yes, definitely. We wanted to break this barrier. We were waiting for this moment, now that this moment has come, let's make it a habit. Next year, there's a World Cup as well then a Champions Trophy. So many big occasions are coming, we just want to keep getting better and do our best."
Time for the Indian team to collect their winners medals.
Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa Women Captain): "Yeah, all of those words. I couldn't be more prouder of the team. India played fantastically well. But we will definitely learn and improve from this.
I think we did well to put those bad games behind us. It was either a very good game or a very bad game. But, so many different players stepping up. Amazing tournament for a number of players.
I didn't have my best year leading into this World Cup. May be I was overthinking. It was just another game of cricket. Separating captainship and batting made a bit easier for me.
We were hoping for little bit more. It was the right call to bowl first. We were in the chase throughout the game but lost too many wickets.
I was just checking that scoreboard and they were tracking 350. We were brilliant at the back end. 300 was above par and we thought we could chase it.
Definitely her (Shafali Verma) bowling. She batted extremely well. She plays aggressively but when she comes off like today, she can hurt other teams.
(On Marizanne Kapp) She has been phenomenal. It's sad that she won't be getting a winning farewell. The whole group wanted to win it for her. We are very lucky to have her in our team."
Now, it's time for the South African players to collect their runners-up medals.
