Player Bio

Raghu Sharma's cricketing story doesn’t follow the usual script. Born on March 11, 1993, in Jalandhar, Punjab, his entry into professional cricket began not as a prodigious teenager but as a determined 20-year-old with raw passion. Despite the delayed start, he carved his niche with a relentless work ethic and the ability to turn games on their head with a single spell of leg-spin.

His early days were spent rising through the Punjab ranks, representing the state at U-23 and U-25 levels. In the 2015 Col CK Nayudu Trophy, Sharma's two five-wicket hauls against Andhra Pradesh raised eyebrows and marked him as a spinner of substance.

He soon broke into First-Class cricket with his debut for Punjab against Vidarbha on October 14, 2017, in Mohali. In his first innings, he earned his debut wicket in the form of Lalit Yadav. From there, Sharma's journey across formats has been steady and significant.

He made his List A debut for Punjab against Himachal Pradesh on October 5, 2019, during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In that match, he bowled with discipline and claimed two crucial wickets, marking his presence in the limited-overs format.

Sharma ventured into the T20 arena with his debut on January 10, 2021, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Railways. Though he went wicketless in his first outing, he impressed with his economy and flight. In three T20s so far, he has taken 3 wickets, and while the stats may not dazzle yet, the potential is evident in his rhythm and craft.

What sets Raghu apart isn’t just consistency, but impact. He's been a game-changer in club and domestic leagues, both in India and abroad. In 2023, his stint with Longton CC in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League in the UK saw him take 48 wickets at just 13.08. At home, he left a mark in tournaments like the JP Atray Trophy and the Siechem T20 with spells such as 6/54 in 10 overs and 5/10 in just 4 overs, respectively. These weren’t just performances; they were statements.

Raghu’s success is built on control, drift, and the uncanny ability to read batters. He may not yet be a household name, but those who’ve faced him know the threat he carries. Coaches noticed. Selectors noted. And in 2025, the Mumbai Indians leapt, signing him as a replacement for the injured Vignesh Puthur. The IPL call-up wasn't just a milestone; it was a reward for a journey defined by grit rather than hype.

Despite the lack of public fanfare, Raghu Sharma embodies the cricketer's cricketer, a man who lets the ball speak. There's no flamboyance, only fire; no viral clips, only vicious turners. His story isn’t just about where he’s been, but where he could go.

As he joins the MI camp, all eyes might not be on him, yet. But if his past is any indication, he doesn’t need the spotlight to shine. One match-winning spell at a time, Raghu Sharma is quietly spinning a legacy that just might surprise Indian cricket.
